How to use the Wordle solver
- Type the word you guessed in Wordle and press Enter.
- Tap each tile to match its color: gray (not in the word), yellow (in the word, wrong spot) or green (right spot).
- Read the suggestions: the top word splits the remaining answers most evenly, so it narrows things down fastest.
- Play the suggested word in Wordle, enter the new colors, and repeat until you solve it.
Why these suggestions?
Every possible guess is scored by its expected information (entropy): how many bits, on average, the colors it reveals will cut from the list of possible answers. A guess that splits 100 candidates into many small groups beats one that leaves most of them together. When a guess could also be the answer, it gets a small bonus for the chance of winning outright.
Frequently asked questions
What is the best Wordle starting word?
Against the list of common Wordle answers, RAISE gives the most information of any common word. SLATE, CRATE and TRACE are close behind.
Does the solver handle repeated letters?
Yes. Candidates are checked by replaying your guess against each word exactly as Wordle scores it, so a letter that is gray in one spot and green in another is handled correctly.
What dictionary does the solver use?
More than 21,000 five-letter English words are accepted. About 2,300 common answer words are ranked first so the suggestions stay realistic; if none of them fit, the solver falls back to the full dictionary.
Is it free?
Yes. The solver runs entirely in your browser with no sign-up.
